Ceramic on a New Car

Is ceramic coating worth it on a new car?

An honest answer from a Sarasota studio that applies one package: who it suits, who can skip it, and what to do first.

The short answer

Usually yes, if you’ll keep it.

For most new-car owners in Florida, a ceramic coating is worth it if you plan to keep the car for a few years, it’s parked outside, or you want washing to be quicker. A new car needs the least correction, so it’s a good time to coat. A coating won’t stop rock chips; that’s what PPF is for. Our 5-year Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light package starts from $1,000 for coupes, paint correction included.

Worth it when…

You can probably skip it when…

Why “new” doesn’t mean “perfect”

New cars often arrive with marks from transport, dealer prep or a quick wash on the lot. A coating locks in whatever is underneath, so we inspect the paint under studio lighting with you first. Our package includes paint correction, so light defects are polished out before the coating goes on. Vehicles with excessive scratches or heavy swirls may need an in-person assessment for an accurate quote.

New car, new film?

If the car will see a lot of highway miles, the most common setup is Full Front PPF plus a coating on the rest of the car. Any PPF package plus our ceramic coating saves $500. Compare the two in PPF vs ceramic coating, see what ceramic coating costs, or price a new-car package in the builder.

FAQ

Good questions.

Is ceramic coating worth it on a new car?

Often, yes, if you plan to keep the car, it lives outside, or you want easier washing. A new car is a good starting point because there’s less damage to correct, but it still gets inspected first, since new cars can arrive with transport marks or dealer-wash swirls.

Do new cars need paint correction before coating?

Sometimes. A coating locks in whatever is underneath, so we inspect the paint under studio lighting first. Paint correction is included in our 5-year package either way.

Should I coat the car or put PPF on it?

They do different jobs. A ceramic coating adds gloss and makes washing easier; PPF stops rock chips. Many new-car owners put PPF on the front end and coat the rest, which also saves $500 as a bundle.

How soon after buying should I get it coated?

The sooner the better, before the paint picks up wash swirls and baked-on contamination. Gtechniq’s instructions call for the car to stay indoors for 12 hours after application, so plan a drop-off.

Does a dealer coating count?

Ask the dealer exactly what was applied. If you’re not sure, we’ll look at the paint with you before recommending anything.

How much is it?
